The Insurance Claims Counsel will be responsible for assisting the Insured Claims Group Leader with implementing and overseeing the Insured Claims Group’s processes and procedures related to DPR and DPR-related entity insured claims, in an effort to maintain consistency of process, flow of information and to promote early resolution of claims aiming for the best outcomes for DPR. The Insurance Claims Counsel will also be responsible for assisting with claim strategy on large complex claims (including convening strategy discussions with stakeholders), as well as managing certain insured liability/damage claims, as assigned by the Insured Claims Group Leader. The role will also include responsibility for all aspects of complex Construction Defect and Property Damage (“CDPD”) incidents and claims for DPR and DPR-related entities, as assigned by the CD/PD Insured Claims Manager.

Reporting: Role reports to the Insured Claims Group Leader

Specific Duties include:
Insurance Claims Counsel:

  • Attend all claim reviews and provide advice and assistance on claims direction and coverage when warranted
  • Assure carriers are operating within carrier claim service agreement parameters
  • Key member of DPR Team that will collaboratively develop the necessary reports from RMIS system for various users/purposes
  • Work with Construction Techology team and Insurance Data Analysts to help enhance and streamline the RMIS system processes
  • Manage major insured claims as needed
  • Responsible for career development, performance feedback and mentoring of certain insured claims group members
  • Provide mentorship and training within the insured claims group, and RISQ and operations groups
  • Assist with the development and training of other DPR Workgroups (and DPR-related entities) around claims handling best practices.


Claims & Incident Management:

  • Manage all claims for DPR and DPR-related entities, as assigned, in DPR’s RMIS system.
  • Analyze potential insurance coverage for all applicable lines of coverage and properly notify, with all appropriate documents and information, to the appropriate insurance carrier(s)
  • Continuously evaluate claim-specific details as the claim progresses to devise key strategies in conjunction with all internal stakeholders, outside consultants and adjusters. This includes assessing all potential risks, as well as identifying all contractual risk transfer mechanisms.
  • Act as a liaison between all parties involved, including but not limited to, carriers, internal project teams, the regional risk manager, our insurance controller, clients, trade partners, brokers, consultants, and attorneys as it relates to claim progress, strategy, expenses, and settlements.
  • Management of and coordination with DPR’s consultants, outside attorneys and adjusters throughout the claim process and assure that the claims are progressing as promptly as possible.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years relevant construction industry and/or insurance claims experience
  • Previous experience in construction company legal or risk management department, including claim management, highly desired
  • Law Degree
