JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this full‑time faculty member is primarily responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction in the Paralegal Studies program. Active involvement in curriculum development and continuous improvement in collaboration with departmental and interdisciplinary colleagues. Responsibilities include teaching in multiple instructional modalities, assessing student learning, and contributing to shared academic goals. This Faculty member supports student success, provides service to the department and institution, and is required to engage in ongoing professional development consistent with AAUP standards, accreditation requirements, and faculty rank expectations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved curriculum, including online and face-to-face formats.
  • Prepare course syllabi and instructional materials consistent with institutional requirements.
  • Evaluate student performance, assign grades, and maintain accurate records in a timely manner.
  • Hold regular office hours to support student learning.
  • Participate in department and division meetings and serve on college committees as part of faculty service.
  • Contribute to student retention and academic success initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain instructional effectiveness and disciplinary competence.
  • Complete other relates duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Earned Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA‑accredited law school, or a terminal degree appropriate to the discipline, consistent with AAUP standards for faculty appointment.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, including curriculum development, assessment of student learning, and use of appropriate instructional methods.
  • Evidence of professional experience in the legal field, including paralegal practice, legal practice, or related applied work, appropriate to the program mission.
  • Ongoing professional development and scholarly or creative activity, appropriate to an applied academic discipline and faculty rank.
  • Knowledge of technical and computer skills relating to the class to be taught. 
  • Knowledge of instructional techniques and the proven ability to work well with others are also required.
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).
  • Must be a public speaker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
