GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

 
The Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, under the Attorney General's Office, seeks qualified, highly motivated people who desire to work in a professional environment and succeed while working with a like-minded team to accomplish the Academy's Mission.  This position is responsible for the tasks and duties of cleaning and caring for the Law Enforcement Academy training facility.

The Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy is located in Douglas, Wyoming. Douglas is the home of the Jackalope.  Douglas promotes, provides, and delivers vital resources to its residents and visitors to allow them to live, work, and play in a great community.  Each August, Douglas hosts the Wyoming State Fair.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


  • Clean and sanitize multiple surfaces; strip and/or prepare bedding; perform laundry duties; restock clean linens, towels, washcloths, and rags.
  • Follow state, local, APPA, and Academy procedures, and product guidelines; utilize cleaning chemicals safely; handle/mix chemicals effectively for varying surfaces; read SDS sheets, and wear safety equipment/clothing when mixing or handling chemicals.
  • Detailed cleaning of surfaces within zones (all specified rooms); may require disassembly/assembly of equipment or tools, vent grates, dispensers, furniture, etc. 
  • Inventory responsibilities: rotate inventory to ensure usage within shelf-life; stock/restock closets; make requests or recommendations verbally or in writing for replacement of inventory or work-saving devices, or equipment.
  • Daily contact with internal staff (managers, supervisors, co-workers) and external customers; in direct contact with customers' personal property, respecting property rights and privacy needs; report any violation of Academy policy; respond to housekeeping service needs appropriately and within agency policy and procedures.
  • Tasks assigned for special occasions may include setup, decoration, and/or tear down for special Academy functions.
  • Communicate with staff in the facility by mailbox, e-mail, and voice mail; must fill out computer forms, attach and transmit information, research the internet for products, and procedures info (as assigned), and utilize internal room reservation software.
  • Receive updated training through internal and external methods; may travel to conferences or seminars in or out of the state and provide feedback or training to supervisors or co-workers on the content of training; may research safety topics.
  • Occasionally work with temporary employees during times of high numbers or staff shortages; may train other employees; may provide work evaluations to supervisor(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
  • Clean bathrooms, locker rooms, training rooms, offices, and workstations. 
  • Cleans and sanitizes floors, walls, windows, and furniture. 
  • Determines appropriate chemical solutions for cleaning and disinfection. 
  • Change linens on client beds. 
  • Uses universal precaution processes in the cleaning and disposal of biohazard waste. 
  • Identify areas that need repair and notify the proper person. 
  • Stocks, supplies, and chemicals for the unit. 
  • Provides safety awareness for staff and clients. 
  • Cleans dorm rooms and provides fresh linens for incoming students/guests. 
  • Sorts laundry; loads and unloads washers and dryers; folds laundry. 
  • Inspects wash at various stages of processing for cleanliness; recommends changes in washing and rinsing procedures. 

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

 

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and practices. 
  • Knowledge of cleaning and working with many surfaces (tiles, floors, stainless steel, glass, porcelain, carpeting) that require deep cleaning daily. 
  • Knowledge of cleaning standards for educational facilities. 
  • Knowledge of communicable diseases, including blood-borne pathogens and biohazards, and the cleaning protocols utilized to prevent infectious diseases. 
  • Knowledge of cleaners, supplies, and equipment. 
  • Knowledge of basic math. 
  • Knowledge of state and facility policies and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of universal precautions. 
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. 
  • Knowledge of infection control standards. 
  • Skill in English, reading, and writing is required to comprehend the agency and State policy and procedures, chemical mixing instructions, safety procedures, and following schedules of multiple activities. 
  • Skill in handling large loads under the pressure of deadlines, with multiple projects underway. 
  • Skill in communicating with internal and external customers in all situations, utilizing different types of communication equipment (P.A., phone, computer, e-mail, face-to-face, and written correspondence). 
  • Ability to use mops, steam cleaners, and perform vacuuming. 
  • Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces for many hours. 
  • Ability to be direct yet professional when dealing with students, staff, and guests.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 

Education:
High School Diploma
 
Experience:
0-6 months of progressive work experience (typically in housekeeping)
 
OR
 
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in housekeeping)
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
 

  • Physical Work.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (buckets, equipment, laundry, and supplies).
  • Ability to work in areas that have noise decibels at a higher than usual level (ear protection provided).
  • Ability to work in temperatures that are warmer and/or cooler than comfortable.
  • Ability to work in conditions of dust, dirt, and various cleaning chemicals, soaps, and cleaners.

  • Successful applicants are required to pass a background investigation.
