Job Description

  Our Staff Counsel legal team is seeking a dynamic, collaborative and experienced Legal Assistant to join us. This role is based in our Southfield, MI office.   Position Summary The Legal Assistant provides administrative and litigation support to attorneys and legal staff in a fast-paced Staff Counsel office handling personal injury defense matters. This position assists with case management, legal document preparation, court filings, calendaring, and maintaining organized case files to ensure efficient handling of litigation matters. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively within a legal team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare, proofread, format, and finalize legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and other litigation-related materials from attorney drafts and templates. Assist attorneys with case management and litigation support throughout the life of a claim or lawsuit. Maintain attorney calendars, monitor court deadlines, and assist in ensuring timely compliance with procedural and litigation requirements. Coordinate meetings, conferences, and internal case strategy discussions. Electronically file pleadings and other legal documents with state and federal courts, as applicable. Maintain accurate and organized electronic case files, ensuring proper indexing, filing, and document retention. Review legal documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with court rules and office procedures. Assist with preparation for hearings, mediations, trials, and other litigation-related proceedings. Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, vendors, and other business partners. Provide general administrative support to attorneys and legal staff as needed. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 3-5 years of legal assistant, litigation assistant, or paralegal experience, preferably in personal injury defense, insurance defense, or civil litigation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with electronic filing systems and legal case management software. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently. Strong proofreading and document formatting skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a Staff Counsel, insurance defense, or personal injury litigation environment. Familiarity with state and federal court procedures and filing requirements. Knowledge of litigation timelines, court rules, and legal terminology.
