Under the direction of the Senior Assistant Attorney General, the Investigative Auditor IV Supervisor in the Cybercrime Section supervises auditors experienced in the discipline of forensic accounting, unauthorized intrusions, internet fraud, scams, or confidence schemes committed by means of electronic media, money laundering via cryptocurrency or electronic transfer, cryptocurrency blockchain tracing, organized retail crimes involving significant digital evidence, cyberstalking, and cyber-extortion or cyber-exploitation. Auditors in the section often work independently during criminal investigations in major, multi-jurisdictional, complex cases, typically involving various forms of financial fraud, cyber-related crimes, and the underground economy. Auditors review evidence in criminal cases, input financial data, interview witnesses, prepare reports, spreadsheets, and summaries, advise prosecutors and investigators on technical accounting matters, draft search warrants for financial records and other third-party data, and assist in the preparation of search warrants, court orders, and subpoenas for criminal prosecution, asset forfeiture, and restitution purposes. Auditors work in vertical prosecution teams within the DOJ, as well as with local, state, and federal law enforcement, and interagency task forces, and must be qualified and prepared to testify in both criminal trials and grand jury proceedings. In addition to directing the work of investigative auditors, the Investigative Auditor IV Supervisor is expected to perform the most difficult, large-scale, sensitive, and controversial audits in the section. Applicants should have the ability and desire to perform audit work in difficult and complex matters with advanced electronic data processing skills; work efficiently and pleasantly under severe time pressures; prepare financial analysis for use in court, including creative, accurate, and comprehensible presentations; and manage and organize large quantities of financial records and integrate them for final analysis. Knowledge of fraudulent schemes, especially related to the sale and distribution of cryptocurrency, cyber-related extortion, cyber-related exploitation, business organization structures, digital evidence in relation to organized crime, and electronic transfer; applicable laws, regulations, and criminal provisions; general and specialized accounting and auditing principles and procedures. Professional qualifications, such as the Certified Fraud Examiner designation.
