Job Description

The Assistant County Attorney performs supervisory and professional legal work prosecuting criminal suspects on behalf of the State of Texas.

The position has a base pay of $82,873.00 and may currently be supplemented by an annual grant to rural law enforcement. The grant supplement must be applied for each year and is not guaranteed for approval.

The position also requires that the applicant have a working knowledge of civil law, for the purpose of providing advice and drafting documents related to the needs of the various county departments.

In addition, the position requires a working knowledge of Juvenile Law under the Texas Family Code.

The work involves preparing criminal case for proceedings in the courts of Cooke County. Preparation includes, pleading the case or going to trial; participating in legal research necessary for the preparation of criminal trials; prosecuting jury and non-jury trials and/or negotiating settlements, and preparing various briefs, motions, and other legal devices, as necessary.

The applicant must have a Doctoral degree required for this position. Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Texas. Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.
