Job Duties
The successful candidate will provide legal counsel and representation to the Virginia Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Program (“BIF”) and its Board, and the Commonwealth Health Research Board (“CHRB”). The representation will include reviewing and analyzing medical records, conducting research, conducting all aspects of discovery, including motions practice, preparing medical records designations, drafting pleadings and briefs, and representing BIF in litigation before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission and in Virginia state courts. In addition, the successful candidate will attend meetings of the BIF Board and will provide legal advice and training to the BIF Board, executive staff and employees. The successful candidate will also attend meetings of the CHRB Board and will provide legal advice and training to the CHRB Board, executive staff and employees.
Minimum Qualifications
- Admission to the Virginia State Bar required.
- The position requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to manage a significant and challenging caseload, a willingness to assist and supervise others, and the flexibility to work both independently and as a team member.
- Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.

Additional Considerations
A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of civil litigation experience in federal or state court, as well as experience in state administrative litigation, is preferred but similar litigation experience will be considered.
