Overview

Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) seeks a full-time Legal Director (Program Manager) to lead, manage, and aggressively implement our high-impact public interest litigation program, driving timely, aligned action and results to advance our mission. This role requires at least one week of work per quarter in-office (Las Vegas, NV), with travel required as necessary to support the operation and meet business needs. The work location is flexible if approved by FPC but may not be based in or performed remotely from Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, or Rhode Island.

The Role

In this role, you will report to the President and serve as an executive leader, directly overseeing litigation efforts including FPC’s nationwide docket, and managing dozens of cooperating law firms and service providers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing legal strategies and objectives aligned with FPC’s mission, goals, core beliefs, and legal positions in the context of a large, growth and results-focused program
  • Managing and coordinating with outside counsel, service providers, and others to ensure timely, aligned outcomes
  • Maintaining an appropriately aggressive approach consistent with FPC’s core beliefs, legal theories, and constitutionally relevant history
  • Proactively evaluating issues and developments, and independently determining and implementing the appropriate courses of action consistent with FPC’s strategies and objectives
  • Conducting research and preparing precise communications, memoranda, reports, and publications
  • Maintaining precise tracking of active cases
  • Meticulously organizing and maintaining electronic and physical files and systems
  • Handling confidential information with discretion
  • Performing other duties and managing projects as assigned


Candidate Profile

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a highly effective, driven litigation manager to play one of the most prominent and coveted roles in a nationwide effort to secure the right to keep and bear arms and expand liberty. We seek candidates with the requisite legal/litigation expertise and stature, especially with respect to appellate litigation, to implement the national legal strategy on behalf of FPC. They will build upon a legacy of excellence and be part of a period of remarkable change and impact for FPC. The ideal candidate will have a stellar reputation in litigation management and implementation, and unquestioned personal and professional integrity. They will have a strong moral center, passion and determination, excellent judgment, diplomatic skills, and the courage to lead within a highly complex and often challenging environment.


Requirements

  • Alignment with and support for FPC’s purpose, core beliefs, mission, and brand
  • At least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Active membership in good standing with a state bar (no disciplinary actions)
  • Minimum of 7 years legal experience, including at least 4 years successfully managing litigation and outside counsel
  • Ability to travel to the corporate office at least quarterly and as needed to support case management and effective operations throughout the country

  • Civil rights / Section 1983 / Bivens and APA litigation
