Job Description
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is distinct among United States Attorney's Offices due to the breadth and scale of its work. It acts as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. Locally, it handles cases ranging from misdemeanor drug possession to murders, while federally, it handles cases ranging from child pornography to gang, financial fraud, and terrorism. The Office represents the district in civil suits.
Duties The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is looking for Investigative Analyst's for the Criminal Investigative Unit and the Superior Court Division, where you will play a critical role in supporting criminal investigations and prosecutions. Criminal Investigative Unit will focus on Federal violent crime and your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of analytical and investigative support functions. Superior Court Division provide highly-skilled analytical support to attorney's to enhance felony investigations and prosecutions, in which the division prosecutes local crimes under D.C. Code law, ranging from weapons possession to shootings, sexual assaults and homicides. Typical work assignments will include: - Conducts Thorough Analysis: locate, analyze, and synthesize complex data from a variety of sources, including law enforcement databases, financial records, open-source intelligence, and digital evidence in furtherance of criminal investigations. - Develops Investigative Leads: proactively identify and develop investigative leads through in-depth analysis of various data sources and information, providing actionable intelligence to prosecutors and law enforcement agents. - Prepares Detailed Reports: produce clear, concise, and comprehensive analytical work products to summarize key findings, timelines, and important evidence for use in investigations and court proceedings. - Provides Investigative Support: assist prosecutors and law enforcement agents with critical investigative support, including employing open-source investigative techniques, conducting geospatial, financial, and link analysis, and providing robust analytical services for a variety of cases. - Collaborates with Law Enforcement Agencies: liaise with a variety of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and other organizations to coordinate investigative efforts and share intelligence and insights in furtherance of criminal justice initiatives. - Conducts Open Source Research: utilize open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques to gather and analyze publicly available information from social media, the internet, and other online sources to advance criminal investigations.
