The United States Attorney for the District of Utah is responsible for prosecuting all federal crimes committed within the district. The Office also defends the United States, its agencies, officers, and employees in civil actions; enforces the regulatory authority of federal agencies, and recovers funds from individuals who violate criminal, civil and regulatory laws. The Office is divided into four divisions: the Administrative Division, Appellate Division, Civil Division and Criminal Division.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for enforcing tribal, local, state and federal law.
Typical work assignments will include:
- Serving as a technician in financial litigation and is responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services.
- Performing a wide range of technical support duties involving the processing of cases within the financial litigation function.
- Using a variety of automated systems to conduct research, initiate documents for debt collection actions and track debtor accounts.
- Using common online resources, obtains and analyzes routine financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay.
- Communicating with debtors to present options for debt payments, answering questions, explaining pertinent procedures, clarifying information, and working cases to resolution.
- Preparing payment plans which involve reviewing financial asset information the debtor has submitted.
- Performing periodic internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection case records to ensure accuracy of program operations.
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
GS-7: To be eligible for the GS-7 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as communicating with debtors on payment plans, and procedures regarding financial litigation; processing debt collection for criminal and/or civil debts; and drafting letters, forms and/or reports to initiate the collection of debts.
GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.
Specialized experience is defined as performing internal control audits of financial litigation and/or debt collection; investigating financial assets and transactions and/or providing analyses of information from debtors; interpreting and/or enforcing judgments in criminal and/or civil cases pertaining to financial litigation to include criminal fines, assessments, interests, penalties, restitution, criminal forfeitures, bond forfeitures and/or court costs.
