Supervising Attorney (Part-Time, 20 hours/week)
Unity House Law Project

Unity House Law Project is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Supervising Attorney (20 hours per week) to join our passionate team of attorneys and paralegals who advocate for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Our work centers on civil legal proceedings, particularly family and matrimonial law.

The Supervising Attorney will provide both legal and administrative oversight, guide and mentor staff, and offer limited direct consultation and representation. The ideal candidate has a strong background in trauma-informed legal services, thrives both independently and collaboratively, and is deeply committed to supporting survivors of domestic violence. This role offers flexible weekday, daytime scheduling, onsite work, and opportunities for some remote hours.

Salary based upon experience 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed civil legal services to victims and survivors of domestic violence.
  • Supervise a small team of attorneys and paralegals, ensuring high-quality advocacy and service delivery.
  • Support professional development through staff training, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with domestic violence program staff and other Unity House teams to enhance client support and program effectiveness.
  • Work with senior leadership to shape the long-term vision and priorities for legal services.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with partner organizations to improve service coordination and community outreach.
  • Maintain accurate records, case statistics, and ensure compliance with all funding and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supervising attorneys in family and matrimonial litigation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience representing or supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence.
  • Minimum 5 years practicing within a trauma-informed legal framework.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and case-management skills.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
