Job Description

Summary

Responsible for serving civil process and warrants, investigating criminal law violations and filing cases with the Justice Court and District Attorney.   Responsible for courtroom security and safety and conducting building security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Executes civil process, writs and warrants.
  2. Assists the District Attorney’s Office and Probation Department with making arrests.
  3. Patrols area and maintains awareness of Precinct for crime prevention.
  4. Provides enforcement at civil standbys.
  5. Performs refuse and traffic enforcement.
  6. Assists all law enforcement agencies.
  7. Collects executions on judgments.
  8. Prepares all court documents for return after execution.
  9. Provides security for courthouse and acts as court bailiff.
  10. Maintains and secures the court room.
  11. Assists the general public with information and direction in court or in the County facility.
  12. Assists the court personnel in obtaining and securing jury services or sequestering a jury panel.
  13. Conducts warrant checks or confirms warrants on defendants.
  14. Provides security for all County buildings or departments in the Precinct as requested.
  15. May perform some administrative duties for the Judge.
  16. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s degree or 60 hours college and three (3) years law enforcement experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and one (1) year law enforcement experience or five (5) years law enforcement experience or any equivalent combination based on 30 college hours equaling one (1) year of experience.  Valid and current Texas Driver’s License.  Valid and current TCOLE Certification.   Demonstration of firearm proficiency.   Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.


If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
 at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.
 
Tarrant County will conduct background checks that will include a criminal background check and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records, educational attainment, or additional State or Federal legal requirements.  

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel and twist the upper body.  Use of a vehicle is required to perform the essential job functions.  Incumbent must be able to respond to emergency situations which may include the use of physical force.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Regular attendance is essential.   Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule.  Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others.  Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves and others.  Requested accommodations to work hours and schedules are considered on an individual basis. Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records, and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment.  Each case is considered individually.

 
The Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1701, SECTION 1701.306. PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education, requires that applicants must be certified as medically and psychologically fit to perform the duties of peace officer when appointed; and at any time during employment when circumstances justify re-examination of a peace officer's medical or psychological fitness for duty. The duties of this position require courteous and tactful contact with the public as well as incarcerated persons. Incumbent may be required to work under trying conditions during emergency situations for hours without relief and may be required to make instantaneous decisions regarding the use of force including deadly force, therefore emotional and mental stability is essential. This position requires a high physical level of physical ability. Law enforcement professionals must be capable of performing all essential and emergency duties of the job assignment with or without reasonable accommodation that does not impair a business necessity or impose an undue business hardship and without presenting a direct threat to the safety of the employee or others. Inability to use emergency equipment or physically restrain offenders can pose a serious danger to the public and co-workers and adversely impact operational objectives.
