Job Description

Reporting to the program’s Managing Attorney, and working in collaboration with the Gulfton Campus team, the attorney is responsible for providing legal consultations to neighbors seeking immigration advice, managing a case load of cases, and supporting legal workshops, and outreach activities. The position is based in Gulfton and will be focused on serving neighbors in the Southwest Harris County region.

The legal representative will work on a interdisciplinary team of attorney's, DOJ Accredited Representatives, and Social Workers to provide high quality legal services to the Gulfton Campus neighbors. The legal representative will be expected to provide legal consultations on a weekly basis, as well as carry a caseload that will include DACA, Naturalization, N-600s, I-90s, work permit renewals, and family-based immigration cases. If the candidate selected is an attorney, the role will include a small amount of immigration court work. The legal representative will support the program’s workshops including DACA renewal workshops, naturalization forums, and asylum workshops, as well as provide Know Your Rights presentations and info sessions to community partners and neighbors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with family-based immigration cases including I-130s, family-based adjustment of status, work permits, and consular processing. Experience with waivers is a plus.
  • Experience representing clients at USCIS interviews including adjustment of status and naturalization interviews.
  • Knowledge of immigration court including forms of relief.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian-based relief such as asylum, crime victim visas, and temporary protected status.
  • Interest in developing innovative projects that address systemic issues faced by immigrant communities.
  • Commitment to community development and social justice.
  • Experience maintaining a high-volume caseload.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Experience working with vulnerable client populations.
  • Experience in community outreach, Know Your Rights presentations and/or public speaking.
