Job Title: Legal and Compliance Officer  (Temporary position with the possibility of becoming permanent) 
FLSA Status: Exempt 
Pay Range: $75,000 – $95,000
Reports To: General Counsel
Job Close Date: May 16th 

Position Summary 
This position is responsible for assisting the General Counsel in managing risk and compliance for USA Triathlon and working with the team’s two Risk and Compliance Coordinators. This position is initially a temporary position of approximately three months (which may be extended according to business needs). The position plays a critical role in ensuring alignment with the U.S. Center for SafeSport (Center) and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) requirements. In addition, this position will support USA Triathlon’s insurance program, and assist with contract negotiations and policy reviews. The team member will be successful at building strong relationships across the organization, committees, and constituent groups to assist in managing risk, compliance, contracts, governance, and insurance for the organization.

Essential Job Functions
  • Proactively manages SafeSport compliance requirements established by the Center. Oversees responding to constituent questions regarding Center requirements.
  • Assists with managing contract administration including, but not limited to, preparing contracts, negotiating terms with internal and external partners, and explaining terms and conditions to managers and other constituents.
  • Supports General Counsel with legal and compliance projects including ensuring the organization is in alignment with USA Triathlon Bylaws. 
  • Ensures compliance with USOPC and Center audit requirements, including overseeing audit preparation and execution.
  • Assists with managing USA Triathlon’s insurance program and annual insurance renewal process.
  • Prepares standard operating procedures regarding risk mitigation.
  • Collaborates with other USA Triathlon business units, Board of Directors, USA Triathlon Foundation, Committees and other external agencies.
  • Educates constituents and staff regarding rules and policy requirements of the Center, USOPC, and USA Triathlon.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, skillful at creating professional documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and managing email communications.
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization and across all departments to achieve common goals.
  • Proficient in both written and verbal communication, adept at conveying ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Consistently maintains a positive attitude, fostering a supportive and productive work environment.
  • Skilled in organization and time management, efficiently prioritizing tasks and resources to achieve objectives within established timelines.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, effectively analyzing problems to make informed decisions that drive strategic outcomes and organizational success.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Qualifications
  • Juris doctorate (JD) is preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing compliance is preferred
  • 1+ years’ reviewing contracts is preferred
  • Experience with insurance matters (risk management and management of claims and litigation) preferred 
  • Experience within, or knowledge of, the multisport, endurance or national governing body industries is preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. 
  • This is a hybrid role. In-person in our offices in Colorado Springs from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm on  Tues/Wed/Thurs with the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

Salary
  • $75,000 - $95,000
