Municipal Court Clerk II

About the job: The Municipal Court is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Municipal Court Clerk II to support critical court operations in a fast-paced, public-facing, team-focused environment. This position performs a wide range of advanced administrative duties that ensure the integrity and efficiency of the court’s daily and long-term processes. You will play a key role in reviewing and interpreting legal documents, maintaining court records, processing payments and pleadings, and serving our citizens.

This journey-level position is part of the Municipal Court Clerk series and is responsible for the full scope of responsibilities within the division. You will be expected to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate strong knowledge of court procedures and compliance standards. Due to the nature of this role, regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a Municipal Court Clerk II, you will:
  • Interpret and process judges’ orders, including criminal and traffic warrants, contempt citations, PR bonds, subpoenas, and show cause actions
  • Schedule court appearances, manage case flow, and coordinate with outside agencies including law enforcement
  • Provide detailed customer service and explain court procedures, orders, and case status to defendants, attorneys, and the public
  • Maintain and audit official court records—both physical and digital—and process legal pleadings, background checks, and record requests
  • Process payments and reconcile daily batch report.
  • Advise Court Clerk I and Office Specialist staff on policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced understanding of court procedures, legal terminology, and applicable state statutes
  • Intermediate math, writing, and reading comprehension skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and specialized court case management systems
  • Ability to independently interpret and apply judges’ orders, court rules, and legal procedures
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information professionally
  • Ability to train, coach, and guide other staff members effectively
  • Familiarity with the Colorado Municipal Court Rules of Procedure and Colorado Criminal Rules of Procedure

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • Two years of full-time responsible law enforcement, social work, or related experience

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly exerts 10-20 lbs. of force to move objects and may require lifting objects in excess of 50 lbs. occasionally.
