The Opportunity:

An exceptional career opportunity is available in the Houston office of a premier, tier one global law firm. They seek a highly specialized Intellectual Property Lawyer to join their globally recognized Life Sciences division of their Patent department.


This position offers the chance to work at the forefront of biotechnological innovation, providing strategic patent counsel to a distinguished clientele that includes pioneering research institutions, emerging startups, and established pharmaceutical corporations. You will join a collaborative team of esteemed legal and scientific professionals dedicated to protecting groundbreaking advancements that shape the future.


Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of our IP prosecution team, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities, including:

  • Drafting and prosecuting complex patent applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and managing corresponding international patent portfolios.
  • Analyzing patent documents and prior art to conduct due diligence on and determine the feasibility, invalidity and freedom-to-operate to determine patentability of novel therapeutics, biomedical marvels, clinical diagnostics, and a plethora of other life sciences innovations.
  • Formulating and executing sophisticated patent strategies to support the long-term business objectives of our clients.
  • Providing corporate counsel for clients spanning the end-to-end of intellectual property law matters, which heavily involves portfolio management and due diligence in a scientific approach towards modern and future miracle inventions of the med-tech industry.
  • Collaboration with firm leadership, partners and associates to deliver superb service to the firm's bespoke client-base in Houston's burgeoning life sciences industry.


Candidate Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a unique combination of advanced scientific knowledge and solid legal expertise.

  1. Juris Doctorate in Law from an ABA accredited law firm.
  2. Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas (or ability to be admitted expeditiously)
  3. An advanced Ph.D. is preferred in a relevant life sciences discipline, such as biology, molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  4. Active USPTO Registration is required.
  5. Five years or more of direct experience in building a portfolio of biomedical or life science innovations and patent litigation in defense or prosecution of clients' intellectual property rights.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior analytical and writing skills, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage a demanding docket of complex matters. This role requires a professional who is both an independent thinker and a collaborative team player, capable of translating intricate scientific concepts into robust legal protection.
