The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has played a vital role in shaping Ohio’s past and present and the work it does today helps chart the state’s future. The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime, assist the criminal justice community, provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies, and enforce certain state laws. The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced individual for Software Developer 3 in the Information Technology Services Section.

The Software Developer 3 possesses a considerable technical knowledge of program and application development, and receives general direction to perform systems analysis and design, recommends application solutions and/or tests, corrects and implements software and programs, assists with documentation, and contributes to high-quality outcomes. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule.

There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad St., Columbus.

The successful candidate will perform the following duties, which include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable systems, focusing on performance, security, and maintainability under the guidance of senior developers.
  • Participate in technical evaluations, code reviews, and performance assessments, providing and receiving constructive feedback to foster growth.
  • Promote best practices in coding, debugging, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including product managers, to understand technical roadmaps and guide strategic decisions.
  • Troubleshoot issues, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement preventive measures to enhance system reliability and uptime.
  • Support agile methodologies by participating in sprints, stand-ups, and retrospectives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging tools, frameworks, and methodologies, and suggest relevant advancements to the team.
  • Contribute to the development of reusable frameworks, libraries, and tools to streamline development processes.
  • Manage technical debt by balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term system health through strategic refactoring and optimization.
  • Support data migration initiatives, ensuring data integrity and accuracy through careful planning and validation.
  • Design, develop, and maintain web services, leveraging knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Reinforce proficiency in the Microsoft technology stack, including .NET, C#, Azure, and related tools, to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Assist in establishing and documenting processes and best practices for software development, ensuring consistency and clarity for the team.
