The selectee of this position serves as a Budget Analyst responsible for advising and consulting with appropriate district, headquarters, and Department of Justice (DOJ) program managers in all phases of the federal budget cycle. This position is located in the Financial Services Division (FSD), Arlington, Virginia.
DutiesAs a Budget Analyst at the GS-0560-13 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare and consolidate the agency budget request and associated narrative justifications and required exhibits and performance data.
- Performs in-depth analysis of budget requests and funding proposals and makes recommendations to senior leaders.
- Advising and consulting with organizational programs managers in all phases of the budget cycle.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends process improvements to the budgetary process, policies, and procedures.
- Prepares budget briefing materials (e.g. narrative responses, data requests, and formulation guidance).
- $121,785 - $158,322/year

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing 4 or more of the following:
- Monitoring obligation and expenditure activity against an approved budget to identify variances and report findings to supervisors or program staff;
- Reconciling financial records or accounting system data to verify the accuracy of transactions, fund balances, or allotment status;
- Preparing budget execution or formulation reports, tables, or supporting schedules for review and use by higher-level analysts or managers;
- Responding to routine budget inquiries from program or administrative staff by researching financial data or applicable guidance; and
- Reviewing budget submissions or funding requests from organizational units to check for completeness, accuracy, or compliance with established procedures.

This position is open to Competitive Merit Promotion, Non-Competitive and Special Hiring Authority eligibles. You must meet the requirements for one of the following eligibilities:
- Current permanent competitive service employees; former Federal employees who achieved career status in the competitive service; or former Federal employees who served on a career conditional appointment without achieving career status in the competitive service who was separated less than 3 years ago, must submit an SF50 that indicates career or career-conditional (Tenure field 1 or 2); AND status in the competitive service (Position Occupied field 1.)
