1. Organizational Context
a. Organizational Setting
The post is located in the News and Media Division in the Sector of the Director General. The Division is responsible for creating and disseminating colorful storytelling and informational content to reach new audiences via the Organization's social-media and other platforms, as well as through outreach to press outlets across the globe.
The goal of the Division's activities is to implement a media strategy for the Organization that is designed to illustrate how the use of intellectual property (IP), including through WIPO's support, promotes human and community development in the pursuit of a world where IP-backed innovation and creativity from anywhere can benefit everyone.
b. Purpose Statement
The incumbent will be a collaborative, passionate storyteller who can support colleagues across the Organization in strategizing, conceptualizing and illustrating the impact of their work through content suitable for use on WIPO's distribution channels, including social media, web and other platforms. The incumbent will work with colleagues across all Sectors to show how intellectual property (IP) and WIPO's work can help individuals, enterprises and communities grow, while supporting efforts to market WIPO's global IP services.
c. Reporting Lines
The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Senior Media Officer of the News and Media Division.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:
a. Analyze and propose with colleagues across the Organization's Sectors the planning, resourcing and execution of communications activities suitable for WIPO's external-facing platforms.
b. Collaborate with colleagues inside the News and Media Division whose work is focused on WIPO's development activities and the use of IP by smaller enterprises, including maintenance of social media presences dedicated to those issues.
c. Participate in strategizing how to evolve the Organization's content and media strategy, including the integration of AI-powered tools and emerging technologies to enhance content reach and engagement.
d. Create content for existing platforms and develop new platform and audience-specific content products, such as web content, social media posts, feature articles and podcasts, including leveraging AI-assisted content creation tools while ensuring quality and brand consistency.
e. Develop, establish and maintain effective partnerships with media outlets to stimulate coverage of the critical role played by IP as a catalyst for jobs, investments, enterprise growth and economic, social and cultural development for all countries, including the support of WIPO and its activities; ensure that media responses are aligned with the Organization's messaging priorities.
f. Substantively contribute to enhancing WIPO's presence on social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and others) and to the coordination and implementation of WIPO's evolving social media use.
g. Monitor and analyze the ongoing performance of the Organization's media impact and contribute to the creation of appropriate action/responses.
h. Perform other related duties as required.
3. Requirements
Education (Essential)
First-level university degree in humanities, communications, journalism, social sciences or a related subject.
Experience (Essential)
At least six years of relevant professional experience in journalism, media relations, external communication or related sectors.
On-the-ground storytelling and content creation experience.
Experience in creating and tailoring content for ever-shifting social media/digital storytelling trends in order to reach youth audiences and digital natives.
Practical experience in using social media to support strategic communications objectives.
Experience with AI-powered content creation, analytics and social media management tools.
Experience (Desirable)
Experience in podcast conceptualization and production.
Experience in in-studio productions, including program development and directing interviews.
Experience in video editing using commercial tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects.
Language (Essential)
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
Language (Desirable)
Good knowledge of French.

Annual salary:
Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the October 2025 rate of 88.7%

Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
