The Legal Practice Assistant (LPA) provides administrative support for attorneys and other timekeepers. The LPA performs a wide variety of administrative and litigation support tasks and delivers a high level of customer service, while consistently producing an excellent work product.  The LPA will anticipate, plan and proactively meet the business needs of the practice team and execute assignments demonstrating a general knowledge of the assigned timekeepers’ practice area and clients to ensure extraordinary client satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform a range of routine administrative and litigation support tasks for attorneys and other timekeepers.

  • Support new client and business development efforts by submitting conflicts of interests checks and opening new matters.

  • Prepare routine correspondence, documents, and drafts. Make edits and revisions as needed, requiring strong proofreading skills.

  • Manage and organize case documents and calendars.

  • Assist with organizing and monitoring the maintenance of electronic files utilizing the firm’s document management system.

  • Obtain public records from online sources or directly from government institutions.

  • Assist with filing documents in State and Federal Courts (including electronic filings).

  • Support administrative projects under the supervision of attorneys, paralegals and other experienced legal staff.

  • Collaborate with resources inside and outside the firm as appropriate to complete projects or tasks.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate a "can do" and problem-solving attitude and initiative to assist on a variety of projects.

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of department objectives, key activities, and requirements to anticipate and proactively address the needs of the team.

  • Ability to organize a high volume of materials paying close attention to detail.

  • Ability to use sound judgment and good discretion.

  • Ability to provide quality client service to both internal and external clients effectively and professionally.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team to promote consistent and efficient workflow processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness and ability to accept changing assignments and priorities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word).

  • Experience with database file management system such as iManage.

  • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills.

  • Must be willing to work overtime to meet attorney and client deadlines as needed.

  • Demonstrate a willingness to continue learning and developing skills.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree; any combination of experience, education or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience working in an administrative support role in a legal services environment.

  • Experience working in litigation is required.
