Job Description

Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for an exceptional attorney and team player to join its legal team as Assistant General Counsel (AGC), Litigation.  As AGC, Litigation, you will play a pivotal role at the forefront of technological innovation, partnering closely with business and engineering partners and other members of the legal team as you lead the company’s strategy on matters involving litigation, pre-litigation, and other disputes. You also will play a leading role within the legal team in adjacent areas such as incident response, insurance, and more.  If you have a passion for using your litigation background to solve complex legal challenges in cutting-edge industries, this role may be a fit for you.

In this role, you will

  • Strategically manage and direct all aspects of the company’s litigation, pre-litigation, and dispute resolution portfolio, with a particular focus on commercial, products liability, and administrative/regulatory litigation matters.
  • Continuously enhance the company’s best practices to prepare for, manage, and resolve litigation, including e-discovery processes.
  • Select and manage outside counsel to drive cost-effective win strategies and results.
  • Partner with business, engineering, and legal team members supporting our customers, partners, and supply chain to help drive win-win outcomes and positive, long-term relationships.
  • Serve as a key legal team advisor on incident response and insurance matters, and coordinate with internal team members and insurance carriers on coverage and defense.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and high-performing legal team and company culture.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to multiple internal business stakeholders, including senior executives, by understanding business objectives and driving sophisticated yet practical strategies to achieve them.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of litigation, arbitration, and mediation processes and litigation trends and developments related to the autonomous vehicle industry.

 Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of substantial legal experience advising on litigation/pre-litigation/disputes and, as a plus factor, other complex business negotiations and transactions, at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex, high-stakes litigation/dispute matters from inception through resolution.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills, with a proven ability to translate legal complexities into practical business solutions.
  • Significant experience advising senior executives operating in a fast-paced, innovative environment, and delivering solutions that combine legal acumen with practical business judgment.
  • Outstanding communication (verbal and written), negotiation, and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a concise format and to effectively interact with and influence all levels of the organization and external parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects.
  • A proactive, results-oriented approach with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and can-do attitude.
  • Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, being resourceful, and taking on additional responsibility.
  • Law degree (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited institution and license or qualification to practice in the state where you will work.

The base salary range for this position is $212,000 - $339,000 per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
