We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Operations - GL Paralegal to support the Associate General Counsel with general liability matters. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing litigation files, coordinating with outside counsel, performing legal research, and supporting case resolution efforts through organized, accurate, and timely handling of critical tasks. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient case management, facilitating discovery, evaluating third-party issues, and overseeing documentation and reporting functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Research & Memoranda
Prepare well-organized memoranda on legal matters in preparation for trial or ADR proceedings.
Review leases and contracts, focusing on indemnity and insurance provisions, and draft cogent summaries.
Conduct legal research and analysis as directed by in-house counsel.
Discovery Support
Interview internal employees (both field and home office) to gather facts and documentation for discovery.
Draft timely and accurate responses to discovery requests.
Coordinate employee witness availability and communication with local counsel.
Provide necessary documents and updates to support ongoing litigation.
File and Case Management
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in digital format for each GL matter.
Track and update all case-related deadlines including answer, trial, and ADR dates.
Collaborate with in-house counsel to set and revise damage estimates and exposure values.
Maintain an active diary system to monitor ongoing matters.
Collect release and dismissal documentation and ensure cases are properly closed with all financial data reported.
Draft concise “Statement of the Case” summaries for both pending and closed files.
Case Intake & Third-Party Coordination
Conduct timely investigation of new GL matters and gather relevant information prior to assignment of defense counsel.
Evaluate potential indemnity and insurance issues and prepare tender correspondence to appropriate third parties.
Assist in early case evaluation and settlement strategies as directed by in-house counsel.
Recover legal costs from third parties that subsequently accept defense and indemnification tenders.
Minimum Qualifications:
Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor's degree
5+ experience preferred
Litigation experience preferred
Must possess strong organizational and communication skills
Desire to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
Demonstrate an ability to multitask effectively, adhere to deadlines, and be able to work collaboratively within a team as well as autonomously
