The Corporate Employment Counsel is directly responsible for all of the human capital management, policies and procedures and overall compliance, administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resource functions across the organization.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensure organization's compliance.
  2. Maintain responsibility for organization’s compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.
  3. Communicate changes in the organization's personnel policies and procedures and ensure that proper compliance is followed.
  4. Manage all litigation, inquiries and investigations relating to labor and personnel matters.
  5. Negotiate collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and handle all CBA related matters.
  6. Develop appropriate policies, procedures and training for effective management of people resources of the organization including programs for employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints and career development, among others.
  7. Review, make recommendations and oversee all human capital information systems and database to insure accurate pay, benefits, compliance and reporting needs of the organization.
  8. Manage effective employee communications, employee safety and health and community relations.
  9. Supervise the staff of the human resource and recruiting departments and evaluates the members of the HR team and structure for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.
  10. Oversee all claims and safety programs to ensure OSHA compliance and efficient and cost-effective claims administration.
  11. Assists executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the organization's wage and salary and incentive compensation programs.
  12. Manage the budget and other financial measures of the HR department.
  13. Works directly with department managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.
  14. Evaluate and make recommendations for all employee benefit plans and negotiate with brokers and carriers at renewal.
  15. Participates on committees and special projects as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the HR department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m in the corporate office located in Stanton, CA. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree and four to 10 years' related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Excellent knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws and regulations (including ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA etc.)
  3. JD or equivalent and membership in the CA state bar

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Master's degree
  2. SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential
