Job Description: 

The Paralegal will assist in carrying out specific grant objectives and will work to advance the mission of Journey’s End Refugee Services. The Paralegal will directly assist attorneys in the provision of immigration legal services, and will also provide intake, referrals, and administrative support. This position will operate out of our immigration office at Vive. 

 

The Paralegal must exemplify Journey’s End’s core values in their work. These values include intercultural responsiveness, integrity, person-centered, empowerment, and exemplary service. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in providing direct immigration legal representation to the immigrant populations of Western New York (WNY), including preparation of client applications under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney 
  • Assist attorneys in the organization and facilitation of legal consultation days, legal clinics, community information sessions, and Know Your Rights trainings across WNY
  • Provide intake to prospective clients seeking immigration legal services in WNY
  • Provide referrals to appropriate internal agency programs or partner agencies to meet law-related and other client needs
  • Assist attorneys in developing, sustaining, and growing meaningful partnerships with local community groups to organize and host events
  • Assist with outreach and the development/distribution of a list of resources for referrals on programs and services available to new Americans
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Previous office experience (including filing, letter-drafting, data entry, completion of organizational tasks in a timely manner, etc.)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including ability to document work accurately and clearly 
  • Possess enthusiasm to work on a dynamic and fast-paced Rapid Response Project
  • Ability to be part of a dynamic team of talented and dedicated individuals while maintaining independence and ability to self-direct
  • Experience working with diverse populations 
  • Ability to adapt to challenging scenarios involving clients, partners, staff, and service providers
  • Be able and willing to travel to counties throughout Western New York

 

 

 


Salary
  • $19.50/hour
