JOB TITLE:  PARALEGAL (PA)

 

 

 

“At will” paralegal (PA) position.

 

This position represents the Commonwealth of Virginia and will primarily support lawyers and may be required to supervise other legal staff such as legal secretaries and/or file clerks.    

 

Candidates are expected to have specialized skills and knowledge pertaining to the legal profession.  Computer and technical knowledge as well as strong analytical skills are desired.

 

Most of our work needs to be done in the office or courthouse, but we offer a flexible professional environment where the staff has time to attend to their personal lives –through a generous holiday and vacation schedule, and a general flexible outlook on the work/life balance.  The ideal fit is someone who wants to serve the community, have an interesting day, take ownership over their cases, support their coworkers, and above all, someone who knows when to step up. 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Preparing/Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas;
  • Organizing and tracking files;
  • Creating and maintaining a case-management database;
  • Assisting lawyers in collecting legal and factual documents;
  • Transmitting legal correspondence to witnesses and court officials.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Paralegal must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in an office that values civility, kindness, initiative, creativity, humor, sound judgment, and teamwork.  The candidate must be able to organize and work independently with efficiency and accuracy.

 

United States citizen with three years or more of work-related experience in the legal profession, preferably in the area of criminal law.  Candidate will need to have a background check done to confirm candidate is a citizen in good standing.
