
The Manager, Business Development is responsible for working with the Chief Business Development Officers, Business Development Directors, and Houston Partners to support strategic plans and objectives for the Houston Office. This role manages relationships and serves as a resource assisting with related communications, administration, research and reporting, marketing communications, coordination of projects, and leads implementation efforts of strategic plans to ensure successful growth of the Houston office and consistency regarding the Firm’s key business initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Business Development team, Partners, and select practice and industry groups in implementing business development strategies and action plans for the Houston office.
Support Business Development Operations with presentation development, pitches and responses to RFPs for new business.
Provide competitive intelligence reports and analysis of and related to clients and potential clients.
Work with Business Development team members and partners to prepare and maintain up-to-date practice descriptions, capability statements, engagement lists and other business development materials.
Manage and oversee the development and writing of marketing materials; assist Houston Attorneys with market research, copywriting, editing of materials.
Assist in managing and maintaining the Firm's engagement database and maintain deals and case experience across other channels.
Manage and oversee practice and client events, independently or collaboratively, including strategically developing agendas and panels with partners, working with speakers and implementing/overseeing logistics.
Coordinate the development, maintenance and production of marketing brochures, experience lists, and other materials promoting the Houston Office’s practices and Partners both in print and on the Firm’s website.
Prepare or oversee preparation and management of directory submissions and survey responses for various legal and business directories and publications.
Assist Partners and other firm administrative departments in the preparation of internal presentations and varied practice management duties.
Work with the Director and the Firm’s public relations resources to support public relations efforts including key corporate events, such as speaking engagements, business association networking, writing opportunities, and media events.
Assist senior team members to coordinate, support and maintain Business Development Operations and systems including the Firm’s databases, website and related applications.
Onboarding, training, and managing junior BD team members; working with junior team members across BD projects; reviewing work product and helping to set goals and professional milestones.
Assist with projects and initiatives and perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Business Development Officers and Houston leadership.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Minimum 2 to 4 years of demonstrated experience in marketing in a law firm environment managing teams and complex projects.
Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment working with Partners, multiple seniority levels and departments.
Ability to interact well and build professional relationships while maintaining a high level of customer service, diplomacy and discretion.
Ability to proactively identify and analyze problems, develop solutions and deliver results.
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong project management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance competing demands and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment.
Strong attention to detail.
Flexibility to adapt to all work situations and work varied hours.
Ability to commute to downtown Houston for in-office work a minimum of four days per week.
Ability to travel as needed.
Ability to make decisions and remain calm under pressure.
Preferred Skills:
5 to 6 years working at a peer level firm preferred.
Experience working on an industry focused business development initiative is a plus.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
