Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Chief Counsel, located in Minneapolis, MN.
Duties This position is that of a Deputy Assistant Chief Counsel in Minneapolis, MN. The Office of Chief Counsel is one of the Government's largest and oldest legal offices. OCC attorneys work on cutting-edge legal issues and provide critical advice across the CBP portfolio, including trade enforcement, search and seizure, immigration, and government ethics. They also represent the agency in labor and employment matters and provide litigation support to the Department of Justice. This position starts at a salary of $159,695.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $195,200.00 (GS-15, Step 10). In this position, you will become a key member of the legal team for The Office of The Chief Counsel. Typical work assignments include: Providing guidance on the Agency's hiring initiatives, including recruitment incentives, relocation and retention benefits, advice about various pay statues and their impact on compensation, overtime allowances, and position description classifications; Providing assistance to the Department of Justice attorneys representing the agency in employment and labor law actions and providing legal review and guidance about employee conduct standards, investigations of misconduct, proposed disciplinary actions, and investigations of equal employment discrimination complaints; Reviewing and/or drafting proposed regulations, issuances, and training concerning personnel, employment, labor relations, and ethics; Providing guidance and training in the legal aspects of personnel, employment and labor laws with emphasis on ethics, post-employment conflicts of interest, third party administrative proceedings, equal employment opportunity law, and Federal sector labor management relations law; and Supervising and training attorneys and support staff, reviewing work assignments; making recommendations on hiring, promotion and awards; and directing the flow of cases and assignments through the office to ensure a timely response.. Salary- $159,695 - $195,200/year
