Job Description

Hinman, Howard & Kattell is a dynamic and client-focused law firm with a strong reputation for delivering exceptional legal services. Based in Binghamton, New York, we are seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our team and contribute to our continued success in our Scranton, PA regional office.


Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience in litigation and must be admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. This position offers the opportunity to handle a wide range of litigation matters from inception through resolution, while working closely with a collaborative team of attorneys and support staff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of litigation, including case assessment, strategy development, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and settlement negotiations.
     
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery demands/responses, and legal memoranda.
     
  • Conduct and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and attend court conferences and hearings.
     
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues and provide clients with practical, business-oriented advice.
     
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and colleagues to ensure timely case progress.
     
  • Assist firm attorneys with high-stakes matters as needed, while independently managing assigned cases.

Compensation will be based on experience. Both salary and advisory fee arrangements will be considered, depending on experience and established business.

Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Pennsylvania bar admission in good standing.
  • 3–5 years of substantive litigation experience in state and/or federal court.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Professional presence, sound judgment, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience handling depositions, mediations, or trials.
  • Familiarity with e-discovery tools and litigation management software.
Salary Description
$90,000 - $130,000 DOE
