Job Description

The Legal Support Manager is an experienced, energetic, dynamic, and hands-on leader with a passion for employee development who works in close partnership with senior leadership, including Operational Directors, Practice Department Directors, and Practice Team Leaders. Responsibilities include workload coordination, timesheet approvals, overtime monitoring, attendance, and Personal Time Off (PTO) oversight. The Legal Support Manager supervises professional staff in the Seattle office including Legal Assistants, Administrative Assistants, and Legal Support Assistants and Specialists. This is a full-time position that requires regular and predictable on-site or remote attendance. This position will perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Provides day to day leadership and supervision of Seattle Office professional staff, including coverage and workload coordination, timesheet approval, overtime monitoring, attendance, and Personal Time Off (PTO) oversight.
  • Coordinates workload assignments to cover fluctuating organizational needs and meet long-term Firm goals.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with Practice Department Chairs, Practice Team Leads, Seattle attorneys and management peers.
  • Develops and implements staffing plans and leads recruiting and onboarding efforts for professional staff.
  • Proactively and consistently manages employee performance through one-on-one and team meetings. 
  • Drives the performance review process by soliciting feedback on staff performance from attorneys and other internal customers.
  • Cultivates and motivates staff to be engaged with their own professional development, aligned with Firm goals and committed to promoting a positive workplace.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Administration in setting salaries and bonus programs aligned with desired behaviors and tied to performance, budget, and the market.
  • Proactively addresses conflicts between parties and develops solutions to any identified problems or areas of concern.
  • Partners with HR on performance management, employee relations, leave management (including Family Medical Leave and bonding leave), and has a strong working knowledge of benefits, policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Provides project management and oversight for special assignments and projects such as software migrations and training programs.

Be familiar with Lane Powell policies and procedures and meet training and/or professional development goals set by the Firm.

View training and development as an investment in employees and use monitoring, cross-functional assignments, or other on-the-job learning opportunities to enhance the depth and breadth of skills and experience. Define criteria for development programs which facilitate improved job performance, career planning and growth.
  • Managing Employee Performance - Take action to ensure that employees fully understand their roles, responsibilities, and    performance standards and provide ongoing feedback and support as employees strive to achieve expectations. Take timely corrective/disciplinary actions that are consistent, well-documented, and defensible.
  • Initiative and Execution - Look for new and productive ways to make an impact. Be a resourceful self-starter who is able to originate constructive and appropriate actions to achieve results. Overcome obstacles by increasing effort when necessary. Follow through and achieve closure in a timely manner.

  • Internal and External Client Focus - Personally demonstrate that external and internal clients are a high priority. Hours / Schedule / Location:
  • 40 hours per week / Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM / Seattle office
  • This is a full-time, exempt position that requires regular and predictable attendance.
  • This position is a hybrid role and will require on-site work
  • Infrequent travel may be required for cross-office projects
  • This position reports directly to the Director of Administration
Salary Range:
  • $90,000 - $130,000 annually

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required
Experience
  • 2+ years of lead or supervisory experience including performance assessment and management preferred
  •  Experience working in the legal industry preferred
