Job Summary:
This position provides legal advice and assistance to the organization’s business functions across the Americas and as required, overseas. Main duties include preparing. reviewing, and negotiating legal contracts including customer and supplier contracts, handling applicable statutory filings, supporting board meetings, providing general legal advice on various matters, and instructing business colleagues on how to remain compliant with current corporate law. Also managing litigation and external advisers. The role is a newly created role as part of ongoing efforts to improve legal and compliance function and any candidate will be expected to work well within a small group of legal professionals of various backgrounds.
Job Responsibilities:
- Working and advising on legal matters of the business, providing advice based on expert knowledge and skills on various legal issues affecting the business
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements entered by the company.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations in its operations and business activities
- Managing legal risks that the company may face and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Keeping abreast of changing legislation, advising on matters related to corporate governance, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Supporting protection of the company’s intellectual property such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights as required.
- Guiding employment-related matters including contracts, policies, and disputes
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A solid foundation in legal principles and knowledge across various areas of law, including corporate law, contract law, employment law, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property.
- Commercial Acumen: The ability to understand the organization’s business objectives and align legal strategies with overall business goals. This includes a keen understanding of the industry in which the organization operates.
- Thinking: The capacity to think holistically and provide proactive legal advice that supports the long-term goals and objectives of the organization. Ability to anticipate legal issues and provide proactive solutions.
- Risk Management: Proficiency in assessing and managing legal risks. This involves identifying potential legal challenges and developing strategies to mitigate or address them.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying complex legal concepts clearly and understandably.
- Negotiation and Contract Drafting: The ability to negotiate effectively and draft contracts that protect the company’s interests while facilitating business transactions.
- Ethical Judgement: Unquestionable integrity and commitment to ethical conduct. Legal dept members are often relied upon to provide ethical guidance and ensure the organization’s compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Problem-solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address legal challenges creatively and find practical solutions. and adept at analyzing complex issues and proposing viable options.
- Regulatory Compliance: Deep knowledge of relevant laws and regulations applicable to the organization’s industry, and the ability to ensure compliance with these legal requirements.
- Functional: An excellent team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with internal stakeholders, such as executives, employees, and board members, as well as external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory authorities, and legal partners.
- Global Perspective: For organizations with international operations, a global perspective is valuable. Understanding the legal nuances of different jurisdictions and managing legal issues on a global scale is essential.
- Financial Literacy: An understanding of financial principles and the ability to assess the financial implications of legal decisions and strategies.

- Team Work – working with and offering positive contribution withing a small group of legal professionals of various backgrounds
Education: J.D. degree or equivalent legal-based degree.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of legal practice/experience. Ideally experience in automotive.
