The Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support and service as directed to all departments and business units within the New York Yankees. Support and services will include the following areas: corporate/commercial transactions, general corporate matters, regulatory compliance, and other functions within the Legal Department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the New York Yankees on a broad range of corporate/commercial transactions, including with respect to: ownership interest transfers; financings; real property; joint ventures; acquisitions; investments; advertisers and sponsors; ticket holders; technology licenses; media and other rights licensees; commercial vendors (including stadium operations vendors); events; and government entities.
- Support general corporate matters, including: creation and maintenance of corporate entities; transactions affecting corporate structure; and corporate secretary functions.
- Render advice regarding operational legal documents including in the following areas: corporate structure; advertising and sponsorships; ticketing; stadium operations; media relations; community relations; security; finance; events; and human resources.
- Render advice regarding city, state, federal and foreign laws and regulations, as well as MLB rules and regulations, applicable to the New York Yankees’ businesses; develop and support regulatory compliance routines and tasks; and work with and support employees in responding to regulatory requests, reporting and other matters.
- Support the Legal Department with respect to its internal functions, including document management, budget management and information tracking.
- Maintain confidentiality of all tasks; interact with all internal and external constituencies collaboratively, professionally and consistent with the New York Yankees’ high standards.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Minimum four (4) years’ progressive, broad-based transactional and corporate law experience in a law firm, with preference to experience within mergers and acquisitions, private equity or finance practice groups.
- Admission to the New York State Bar and current status as a member in good standing.
- Superior record of professional achievement and recognition.
- Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing responsibilities and various deadlines.
- Willing to learn new areas of law, acquire new skills and take on additional and new responsibilities as needed.
- Ability to maintain high level of professional integrity, discretion and confidentiality
- Excellent computer aptitude including proficiency in: MS Office Suite (MS Word, Power Point and Excel), including ability to produce and utilize redlined and cumulative redlined documents, spreadsheets, Power Point presentations, tables and charts; Docusign; and Litera.
- Ability to work extended hours including weekends as required by deadlines, workload, and event schedule.

Salary range: $185,000 - $225,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package. Actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including the applicant’s years of relevant experience, qualifications for the position, and unique skills.
