The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Central Processing Specialist. Central Processing Specialists are a critical part of our litigation support team, taking a deep dive into witness accounts, expert opinions, and other recorded statements to produce transcripts of the stories that are at the core of our cases. The most competitive candidates are detail-oriented, attention-focused, comfortable working on sensitive material with pressing deadlines, and are interested in the work.

Work Location: Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC), 401 Fourth Avenue North, Kent, WA 98032. In-person training at the MRJC is required, but after the initial training period, this position will allow for remote work. Employees will be provided a county-issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work, remaining available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
The PAO requires for all employees to reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their primary county worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour work week schedule, normally Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for King County’s generous benefits package.
Salary: Range 42-- $29.38 (step one) -$37.24 (step ten) Hourly*

Special Requirements
* In addition to the benefits listed on the benefits tab, employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of the collective bargaining agreement between our office and Teamsters Local No. 117. This contribution is made by the employee and after two years it is paid by the employer.Finalists must successfully submit to a criminal background check, reference check, and be fingerprinted.
- Job Duties
- Provide litigation support by preparing accurate verbatim transcripts of a variety of recorded interviews: technical, medical, forensic, psychological, witness, etc.; courtroom hearings; trial testimony; 911 calls; body worn video/in-car video; jail calls; and voicemails.
- Preparation of legal documents: briefs, charging documents and more.
- Data entry with high-level of attention to detail.
- Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated, or existing ones modified as business needs evolve.
- Specialists receive general supervision, information, guidance, and training; however, duties are completed independently.
- Actively participate in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel and an ability to learn case management system Prosecution by Karpel (PbK).
- Superior listening skills required to produce verbatim transcripts.
- Ability to research information and terminology using the internet.
- Typing speed of 55+ wpm.
- Expert-level knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, composition, and sentence structure; possess an added ability of applying these concepts accurately without altering content or adversely affecting readability.
- Highly skilled in editing, proofreading and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to receive instructions and feedback and to apply that knowledge effectively.
- Familiarity with legal documents and transcription experience a plus.
- Highly developed self-management skills.
- Team-oriented mindset.
