We need an experienced Paralegal to assist the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO), Middle District of Louisiana (MDLA).

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and maintain files, discovery materials, case records, and tracking databases
- Compile and organize new case files, legal documents, correspondences, and litigation reports
- Notify client agency of service
- Update database to track receipt of cases, deadlines, etc.
- Inform internal and external staff members on current status of cases
- Monitor progress of pending cases
- Ensure timely deadlines are met for cases
- Streamline electronic filing system to ensure easily accessible documents
- Assist in discovery and review databases
- Conduct legal research and analysis
- Draft and issue subpoenas and other related documents
- Review and track recipients’ compliance with subpoenas
- Oversee physical and electronic evidence in civil litigation
- Utilize electronic discovery tools
- Prepare and submit routine documents to Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for approval
- Use proper signature format, spelling, grammar, and punctuation for present documents
- Provide a variety of direct legal and support services
- Proofread attorney’s written product
- Verify citations and statutory references
- Maintain and arrange AUSA’s court calendars and travel
- Assemble exhibits
- Schedule court reporters, witnesses, and conferences
- Respond to external inquiries
- Determine information provided by telephonic inquiries and visitors
- Collaborate with agency counsel and staff
- Inform client agencies on status of assigned cases
- Conduct legal research using electronic databases (e.g., WestLaw, Lexis, etc.)
- Support AUSA with deposition and trial-related work, exhibitions, and presenting evidence
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Proficient in summarizing large quantities of information
- Experience in word-processing applications, databases, and spreadsheets
- Analytical and multi-tasker
- Punctual with deadlines
BACKGROUND
- Progressive and relevant experience
- Knowledge in litigation processes, legal procedures, and specialized terminology is preferred
EDUCATION
- Preference for Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Paralegal Degree or Certificate is preferred

Other Considerations. Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
