The Domestic Violence Division of the Anchorage Trial Court is accepting applications for a Court Case Manager 2 (range 12).  Under supervision of the DV Supervisor, the incumbent will review filings on Motions and Requests and process the paperwork after determining compliance with applicable court rules, statutes, and local procedures; work cases and share a rotation of in-courting for hearings and processing files while in court.


Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for an advance step placement.  

What will you be doing?

In-Courting:

  • Set up, organize and maintain the courtroom, including operation and testing of a variety of equipment:
    • Recognize damaged/malfunctioning equipment problems and take appropriate action
    • Troubleshoot and correct equipment problems whenever possible
  • Prepare and organize case files and paperwork for court proceedings
  • Help coordinate movement of litigants and other personnel in and out of court and expedite the flow of courtroom events
  • Log court proceedings using established procedures and practices
  • Maintain and promote proper courtroom decorum in dress and demeanor
  • Complete log notes, store or dispose of exhibits, and properly complete and close other records and documents upon conclusion of court proceedings
  • Complete documentation as ordered in court and other paperwork as necessary.
  • Route files, documentation, tapes/CDs and other items to appropriate offices or locations
  • Ensure complete and accurate flow of documents, log notes, orders and other information to appropriate parties and agencies
  • Assist in the training of new employees
  • Train as necessary on new equipment and In-court procedures


Legal Tech/Case Processing:

  • Process DV documents including motions and other filings
  • Determine if documents are properly filed in accordance with technical provisions of statutes and court rules
  • Ensure motions are accompanied by necessary supporting documents, including certificates and/or affidavits of service and proposed orders, and that all documents are signed and affidavits are notarized
  • Notify counsel, agencies, or pro se litigants in a timely fashion of any deficiencies discovered, citing the appropriate rule(s) or statute(s) as needed


The Work Hours:

Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week.  The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

 

OR

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

 

OR

 

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your keyboarding speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document.  Acceptable websites include: www.ratatype.com and www.typingtest.com.
 
In addition, keyboarding tests are given at any Alaska Job Center location. A list of locations is available at: http://www.jobs.state.ak.us/offices.  
 
WORK HISTORY
If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer’s name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. EDUCATION
