Job Description

This position is located in Refugee, Asylum and International Operations, Asylum Division, Arlington Asylum Office. As a Supervisory Asylum Officer (Deputy Director), you will provide direction to staff, engage in the administration of Immigration and Nationality laws, serve as a USCIS representative on asylum matters, and lead in the strategic mission and resource management of the Asylum Field Office.

Duties
  • Plan the operational direction, management and administrative functions, office accountability and comprehensive technical direction of the Asylum Field Office.
  • Supervise a group of employees performing work related to adjudication of asylum applicants.
  • Clearly communicate guidelines and performance expectations to staff members.
  • Prepare reports, analyses, and field guides in support of program management objectives.
  • Analyze field operations with respect to program elements as they correlate to production, quality, and service to the public.
  • Present recommendations for improvements or modifications to program execution plans.
Salary
  • $142,488 - $185,234/year
Qualifications The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 01/23/2025. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 01/23/2025. GS-14: You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Analyzing the impact of existing or proposed legislation on asylum or immigration benefits programs; Developing program standards, policies and procedures; Coordinating the long-range planning of new asylum or immigration benefits programs; Assessing the productivity, effectiveness or efficiency of asylum or immigration program operations.
