What the role involves:

As an experienced General Counsel, you will serve as the chief legal officer for the Hoskinson Family Office, providing comprehensive legal oversight across multiple operating companies and initiatives. This role requires sophisticated understanding of diverse legal domains and ability to coordinate with external counsel while maintaining strategic oversight of all legal matters.

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to the family office, providing strategic counsel on legal risks across all operations, including healthcare, agriculture, construction, technology ventures, and digital assets.
  • Oversee and manage complex legal matters, including M&A transactions, international tax and regulatory compliance, cross-border business arrangements, and sophisticated estate and tax planning.
  • Coordinate with and oversee specialized external counsel, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal support for niche matters (e.g., cryptocurrency regulation, international tax law, FDA/USDA compliance).
  • Structure, negotiate, and review complex business arrangements such as joint ventures, intercompany agreements, and cross-border transactions, ensuring the protection and optimization of family office interests.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance to the leadership team, balancing risk management with strategic objectives.
  • Design, implement, and monitor legal compliance frameworks across operating companies, with a focus on international regulatory considerations and sector-specific compliance.
  • Manage the intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, and develop long-term IP strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Advise on and ensure compliance with emerging regulatory environments, including cryptocurrency, blockchain, and digital asset frameworks, as well as international trade and tax regulations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for estate planning and family governance, ensuring legal structures align with long-term wealth preservation and intergenerational planning goals.


Requirements

Who you are:

  • JD from an accredited law school with 15+ years of relevant experience, preferably in both law firm and in-house roles.
  • Active bar membership in good standing.
  • Extensive experience across multiple legal domains, including corporate, regulatory, tax, and transaction law.
  • Strong expertise in healthcare regulation (e.g., FDA, USDA) and/or cryptocurrency/blockchain legal frameworks.
  • Proven track record of managing complex legal projects across jurisdictions and sectors, including M&A, international tax structures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with the unique challenges of family offices, multi-entity organizations, and private wealth structures.
  • Exceptional judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in high-stakes matters.
  • Highest level of integrity and professional judgment
  • Ability to build trust while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Comfort working in dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Strong pattern recognition and ability to connect diverse legal concepts
  • Excellence in both written and verbal communication

It’s preferred that you will also have the following qualifications and experience

  • Significant experience with FDA/USDA regulatory frameworks and other relevant government bodies (e.g., SEC, CFTC, IRS).
  • Expertise in intellectual property law, including IP strategy and litigation.
  • Deep understanding of cryptocurrency regulatory landscapes, including SEC/CFTC compliance, anti-money laundering (AML), and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
  • Familiarity with operations in agriculture, healthcare, and construction, including related regulatory and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and multi-entity private wealth management.

The base salary for this position has a range of $xxx up to $xxxk per year at the commencement of employment. Any offer is determined by overall experience and performance during the interview process. This is only part of the total compensation package.
