About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and results-driven Workers' Compensation Applicant Attorney to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advocating on behalf of injured workers and a deep understanding of California Workers' Compensation laws. You will be responsible for managing a full caseload, representing clients from inception to resolution, and ensuring each client receives outstanding service and representation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of Workers' Compensation claims on behalf of applicants from intake through final resolution (settlement or trial).
- Conduct client meetings, depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Develop case strategies, draft pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Negotiate settlements and prepare settlement documents.
- Appear at WCAB hearings including status conferences, MSCs, trials, and lien conferences.
- Maintain regular and effective communication with clients regarding case status and next steps.
- Supervise and collaborate with legal assistants, hearing representatives, and other support staff to ensure timely handling of cases.
- Stay current with changes in Workers' Compensation laws and regulations.
- Ensure cases are handled ethically and in compliance with firm policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- 1-5+ years of experience in Workers' Compensation law (applicant-side experience strongly preferred).
- Knowledge of California Labor Code and WCAB procedures.
- Excellent negotiation, litigation, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Client-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality legal representation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred but not required).
- Experience taking cases to trial.
- Proficiency with case management software.
