SALARY GRADE: Flat Rated

The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 31, is seeking a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to prosecutors in the Forsyth County office. The legal assistant in this role would support a team of prosecutors handling Driving While Impaired cases. Although this position works with a team of prosecutors, you would be the sole legal assistant in this role. Therefore, a successful candidate needs to be highly organized and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, this position requires someone who self-motivated with good time-management and interpersonal skills. This legal assistant is responsible for creating and maintaining a high volume of case files.

Duties include, but are not limited to: corresponding with law enforcement; coordinating victim/witness appearances in court; issuing subpoenas for victims/witnesses; requesting reports; maintaining records; screening calls and visitors; responding to routine inquiries regarding court dates; maintaining office practices and procedures; screening and routing mail according to contents of communication, including e-mail; composing and typing letters; assisting victims with the completion of forms and other documents; and using office computer systems to gather, verify or enter case information.

Salary
  • $38,574 - $63,700/year
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of: court system and procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses.

Skill in: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm; and answering a multi-line telephone system.

Ability to: interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services; coordinate and schedule the daily operations of the victim and witness program; manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed; communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public; and calmly handle stressful situations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.

Management prefers Forsyth County residents and candidates with Spanish language fluency.
