Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel

Job Description
The Office of Corporation Counsel is seeking an attorney to head its in civil litigation, and risk management. The position is responsible for full case preparation including trial and motion practice in administrative, state and federal courts. Requires knowledge of local ordinances, state and federal laws and established precedents; thorough knowledge of court procedures and rules of evidence; and skill in preparing and trying cases. This position also involves legal research and providing advice to City departments on a variety of legal issues, including due process and state law compliance. Requires the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relations with government officials, attorneys and other professionals, law enforcement and the public. A license to practice law in the State of Illinois is required and at least four years of civil litigation experience preferred. Preference for employment in all positions within the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
