Job Title:                            Staff Attorney - Consumer
FLSA Classification:         Exempt
Reports To:                       Practice Group Director
Supervises:                        Paralegals and Legal Secretaries as required
Compensation:                $78,000.00 - $115,000.00 annually

Inland Counties Legal Services is seeking a Staff Attorney to join our Consumer Team.  Inland Counties Legal Services, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing legal services to vulnerable populations in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.  Legal services are provided by attorneys, or paralegals under the direct supervision of an attorney.  Levels of service include advice and counsel, limited action (includes negotiations and preparation of legal documents), as well as direct representation before administrative law and civil courts. ICLS provides legal assistance in eight practice groups: Elder Law, Consumer, Housing, Family Law, Immigration, Systemic/Impact, Health Law, and Public Benefits. Overview of Position
We are seeking an Attorney with a passion for consumer protection.  This position offers the right candidate a dynamic experience networking, project planning, litigating, grant writing, team building and innovating solutions to bridge the access to justice gap for distressed consumers.  The position also provides significant training and professional development. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interviewing and advising clients of their rights and legal strategies
  • Triage cases for merit and resource allocation.
  • Maintain client relationships
  • Manage and resolve client litigation and legal disputes
  • Research complex legal issues
  • Engage in community outreach, workshops and clinics
  • Support team members on their cases
  • Innovate ways to expand delivery of services
  • Participate in grant searches, planning, writing, and reporting
  • Demonstrate ability to handle urgent matters in tight timeframes
  • Comply with all firm policies, procedures and restrictions
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel to community events in ICLS's service area
  • Ability to participate in events outside of regular work hours

Desired Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Law degree and active member of the California State Bar in good standing
  • Ability to understand the objectives of poverty law
  • Prior experience serving low-income clients preferred
  • Strong written, verbal and interviewing skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate with a team       
  • Patient and flexible
  • Calendaring experience preferred
  • Civil litigation experience preferred
  • Bankruptcy experience preferred
  • Consumer law experience preferred (i.e. Fair Debt Collection Practice Act, Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practice Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act)
  • Background in substantive legal areas impacting impoverished communities and experience working with low-income organizations and client groups preferred.

Qualifications
  • Admission to the State Bar of California, in good standing;
  • Years of Experience:
    • Attorney I: 0-3 years of experience
    • Attorney II: 3-5 years of experience
    • Attorney III: 4-9 years of experience
    • Attorney IV: 8 + years of experience
    • Note: Years of experience are considered guidelines based on actual, substantive legal experience.
