Job Description

Who We Are

At CunninghamLegal, we don’t do “ordinary law.” We’re a California firm focused on Estate Planning, Trust, Tax, Business, and Real Estate law. Our Business Department primarily serves our estate planning clients who are also business owners, helping them navigate real estate transactions, tax planning, and business compliance matters. This integrated approach allows us to provide comprehensive legal support that addresses both their personal wealth planning and business operational needs. Our mission is to transform the way attorneys and clients work together — with clarity, compassion, and a whole lot less legalese.

We’re looking for a sharp, personable, detail-driven attorney to take our Business Department to the next level. If you want to be more than a paper-pusher — if you want to be a true advisor, strategist, and trusted face of the firm — keep reading.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work directly with clients (both on Zoom and in person), taking full ownership of client relationships from initial consultation through transaction completion.

This includes:

  • Guiding clients through entity formation, governance, dissolutions, M&A, and commercial contracts.
  • Drafting and reviewing agreements of every flavor: operating, shareholder, buy-sell, partnership, private placement, equity incentive, and more.
  • Handling commercial real estate transactions — from purchase and sale agreements to leases, easements, and license agreements.
  • Leading due diligence, closings, and negotiations with a steady hand.
  • Collaborating with a team of attorneys to deliver excellence — while still owning your role as the go-to attorney in the Business Department.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary ($130K–$167K) plus origination and performance bonuses.
  • Matching 401(k), health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • A collaborative culture where your input matters and your work has real impact.
  • Ongoing professional development and continuing education support.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of business transactional law experience (experience and knowledge in estate planning desired but not required)
  • Proven track record of independently managing client relationships as lead attorney, with demonstrated ability to conduct initial consultations, present legal solutions, and close new business.
  • You should be comfortable selling legal services and building long-term client relationships
  • A problem-solver who can juggle multiple clients and deadlines without breaking a sweat.
  • Someone who writes clearly, speaks confidently, and can turn legal jargon into plain English.

Why Join Us?

Because life’s too short to practice law in a boring firm. Here, you’ll be part of a forward-thinking team that’s redefining what it means to be a lawyer. We’re serious about the law — but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

CunninghamLegal is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
