- Internal Applicants OnlyThis position is open only to current employees of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.Applicants must serve and pass their six-month probation period in their current position in order to be eligible to apply.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, our core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
*Coverage hours, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.*Work Location: Maleng Regional Justice Center, Kent; In-person/telecommuting hybrid with supervisor approval; Location may alternate (Seattle, Redmond, and Burien), depending on needs of the Unit.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to learning a broad range of new skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment with diverse responsibilities. Flexibility is essential, as is the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. This role is responsible for maintaining, preparing, and processing referrals and filings on all Misdemeanor Domestic Violence (DV Misd) court cases. Additionally, the position will support DV Misd DPAs in all phases of pre-trial and trial work and will provide comprehensive paralegal support across the District Court Unit. Success in this position requires excellent organizational skills and a high level of accuracy in data entry; a thorough understanding of District Court policies, guidelines, and procedures and the ability to apply them in complex situations is desired.
- Job Duties
- Receive, process and maintain police referrals and follow-up for all DV Misd cases.
- Prepare, proofread and/or edit charging documents, Orders and PC documents
- Work with District Court Clerk and various attorneys to ensure that RUSH cases are either held or stricken in a timely manner.
- E-file and Transfer to Court for filing DV Misd court cases.
- Manage DV Misd jail calendar daily.
- Primary alternate for DCU’s Seattle jail calendar, see coverage time.
- Assign and update cases to attorneys through PbK on a weekly basis.
- Process requests from an attorney such as more information requests and declines to detectives.
- Maintain and organize open DV misdemeanor referrals and assist with maintaining and organizing criminal cases as needed.
- Primary support with Evidence.com for DV Misd
- Primary alternate for Evidence.com for mainstream DC
- Collaborate and work with DV-Misd and mainstream DC paralegals to assist w/trial prep, calendaring, discovery, etc.
- Work closely with Legal Service Professional supervisor, deputies, law enforcement agencies, advocates, and paralegals.
- Answer numerous phone calls and emails in a timely manner.
- Perform extensive data entry into various software management systems: PbK, CMS, NCIC, Adobe Pro, Excel, FORS, JABS, JIMS, JMS, KCScript, and Word.
- Collaboration: Be part of a team that supports each other.
- Assist Unit Chair, Vice Chair and LSP supervisor as requested
- Perform related work or assist with special projects as they arise.
- Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated, or existing ones modified as business needs evolve.
- Active participation in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions.
- Provide support for the Equity and Social Justice policy and principles and working with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement are requisite.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and general office principles and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal directions.
- Strong organizational skills and be able to complete a variety of tasks in an accurate manner with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and to assume unscheduled and unexpected responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, exercising initiative, and following through with work assignments.
- Customer service skills in person and via telephone (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism).
- Skill in using computers and the ability to become proficient in the use of database programs such as PbK (with training), Word, Excel, JABS & Adobe Pro.
- Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
- Ability to accept supervision and feedback.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with management, co-workers, attorneys, law enforcement and the public.

* In addition to the benefits listed on the benefits tab, employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of the collective bargaining agreement between our office and Teamsters Local No. 117. This contribution is made by the employee and after two years it is paid by the employer.
