Job Description Summary:
As an entry-level prosecutor in the Boulder City Attorney’s Office, you’ll be at the forefront of justice, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic and community-focused environment. You will handle a diverse caseload of municipal offenses, working alongside a dedicated team committed to fairness, equity, and innovative legal solutions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prosecute Municipal Court cases.
2. Meet with defendants, defense attorneys, witnesses, law enforcement, and victims of crime.
3. Prepare for all stages of litigation including reviewing cases, attending arraignment sessions, making plea bargain offers, interviewing witnesses, evaluating the strength of evidence, prosecuting contested cases in bench and jury trials, and handling any appeals to higher courts.
4. Provide legal advice to city departments, administrative staff, and boards and commissions.
5. Prepare ordinances and resolutions.
6. Perform other legal services under the direction of the City Attorney or Deputy City Attorney.

- Take proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Use all required safety equipment and follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Report all accidents and damage to city property.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex legal documents.
2. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints; make oral presentations to City departments, work groups, boards and commissions, and City Council; and willingness to attend evening and/or weekend meetings. Ability to interact with members of the public or City employees when explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, gathered or presented.
3. Ability to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guidelines in order to interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in unprecedented situations. Determine time, place and sequence of actions to be taken to meet deadline requirements.
4. Know or quickly learn applicable law, court procedures and rules of evidence sufficient to assist in the litigation of cases in court and represent the City in administrative hearings.
5. Knowledge of analysis and research techniques sufficient to gather information, secure and analyze desired information, and formulate logical recommendations.
6. Know or quickly learn policy, ordinances and City Charter requirements sufficient to advise on matters that encompass a wide variety of municipal law issues.
7. Independently adapt, interpret and apply written guidelines, precedents and standardized work practices to a variety of situations.
8. Ability to communicate effectively.
9. Ability to prepare professional, concise and grammatically correct written documents.
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, representatives of public or private entities, policy-making bodies, and members of the public.
11. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision-making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives.
12. Know the principles and practices of general law sufficient to collaborate with other attorneys.
13. Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Work or educational experience in state or local government and demonstrated interest in public service.
2. Understanding of legal issues relating to municipal law.
3. Work experience in advising boards or commissions.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. J.D. from an accredited law school.
2. Licensed attorney in the state of Colorado or in the process of earning a license to practice in Colorado.

Working Conditions and Requirements
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/or operating a keyboard. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
