Job Description

The Conflicts Attorney plays a critical role in supporting the firm’s risk management and legal ethics compliance. This position is responsible for conducting high-level conflicts research and analysis to identify and help resolve actual or potential conflicts of interest. The Conflicts Attorney will work closely with the Conflicts and Operations teams to draft legal documents, support firm compliance with jurisdictional requirements and client guidelines, and assist in the development and implementation of firm-wide risk procedures.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform legal research and analysis to identify potential and actual conflicts of interest involving prospective clients, matters, or lateral hires
  • Evaluate fact patterns and legal issues to assess and propose conflict resolutions
  • Draft and review:
    • Engagement and disengagement letters
    • Ethical waiver letters
    • Notice of ethical screen memoranda
    • Other related risk and compliance documentation
  • Ensure firm compliance with jurisdictional guidelines and the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Provide recommendations to Firm Leaders and Attorneys leveraging exceptional relationship management skills and legal knowledge
  • Review and monitor Outside Counsel Guidelines to ensure ongoing firm adherence
  • Collaborate with the Conflicts and Operations teams to design and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices for conflicts review
  • Assist in managing the intake and clearance process for new matters and lateral attorney hires
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in legal ethics and risk management
  • Support special projects and other tasks within the scope of the conflicts team as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

  • J.D. from an accredited law school required
  • Must be admitted and in good standing with a U.S. state bar
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with experience in legal ethics, conflicts, risk management, or litigation
  • Strong working knowledge of legal ethics, particularly the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft precise, clear legal documents
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with conflicts software or databases a plus (e.g., Intapp, Aderant, etc.)

Physical Requirements

Primarily sedentary work. Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
