Job overview and responsibilities 

The Counsel – Regulatory Compliance will advise key business stakeholders to ensure that the Company complies with applicable laws, rules, and guidance of the numerous federal and state government authorities that regulate the airline industry – focusing primarily on the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as well as targeted federal regulatory matters. This position will also represent the company in government investigations and enforcement actions as well as participate in industry trade organizations to further the Company’s legal interests and policy agenda. 

  • Advise business stakeholders to ensure that the Company complies with federal and state law, rules, and guidance – focusing primarily on the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  

  • Identify areas to seek favorable changes to existing law and regulations for the Company.  

  • Defend the Company in response to government investigations and agency enforcement actions as well as respond to agency requests for information and rulemaking.  

  • Monitor new regulatory developments and changes to applicable law and advise on their impact on the Company. 

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):  

  • Juris Doctorate degree 

  • At least 5 years of direct experience working for or with governmental regulatory agencies 

  • Must be licensed to practice in Illinois or able to obtain a license to practice law in Illinois 

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team  

  • Superior written and oral presentation and advocacy skills  

  • Ability to devise and execute successful strategies on complex regulatory issues
