Position Summary:
SafePlace is seeking a dedicated Legal Advocacy Specialist to provide crucial legal advocacy support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence. This role includes performing crisis intervention, ongoing advocacy in person and via phone, facilitating clients’ access to referrals and information in culturally relevant ways, and assisting clients during legal proceedings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accompany and assist residents of emergency shelters, legal clinic attendees, and court clients during legal proceedings.
- Provide advocacy related to immigration and assist clients with anti-harassment and protection orders.
- Maintain accurate client statistics and data entry.
- Develop and maintain culturally appropriate legal resources.
- Inform clients about safety planning and attend bi-monthly legal clinics.
- Provide on-call support for Sexual Assault Response and DV Non-Fatal Strangulation cases.
- Conduct legal resource outreach and education in various community settings.
- Support other SafePlace staff and volunteers in legal advocacy matters.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum one year (1560 hours) in crisis intervention or sexual/domestic violence advocacy.
- In-depth understanding of sexual/domestic violence and legal protections.
- Knowledge of court systems, law enforcement, and legal procedures.
- Effective communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to organize effectively and manage stress.
- Must have (or be willing to obtain) a car, current auto insurance, and a telephone.
Preferred Qualification:
- Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish and English).
