Job Description

Description:

The senior litigation paralegal will provide support to the attorneys and staff of a growing branch office of a highly prestigious, international law firm.  This position will assist with the management of a heavy litigation docket that encompasses the complete range of a litigation life cycle.  Candidates must demonstrate expert competency in all paralegal functions including those related to case management, document collections and productions, deposition and witness interviews, court filings and trial coordination.

Reporting\:    

Reports directly to the Wilmington Office Manager in conjunction with the Associate Director of Litigation Paralegals. 

Responsibilities:

·       Case management - Anticipate team needs; organize and maintain all case documents, electronic and otherwise; oversee handling of files between offices; arrange for appropriate technology; stay current with technology and firm initiatives; direct and delegate work for junior paralegals, where appropriate; maintain calendar for each team; distribute incoming e-filings to litigation teams; assist with mediation preparation.

·       Court filings - Under the supervision and direction of firm attorneys, prepare and e-file state court documents using File & ServeXpress; prepare and distribute paper courtesy copies.

·       Privilege and redaction logs - Under the supervision and direction of firm attorneys, prepare privilege and redaction logs in accordance with applicable court rules, discovery protocols, and case-specific agreements.

·       Research, drafting and cite-checking - Under the supervision and direction of firm attorneys, research precedent documents using Bloomberg; draft various document shells and tables of authority/tables of contents; coordination and/or execution of cite-checking and proofreading tasks; ensure all documents comply with filing requirements, court practices, and chambers preferences.

·       Prepare for depositions - Under the supervision and direction of firm attorneys, gather and prepare documents; prepare printed and/or electronic binders; organize exhibits; and handle exhibits during the deposition, if requested.

·       Prepare for and attend trials - Under the guidance of a Senior Case Manager, review all trial documents (exhibits, designation, etc.); organize all trial materials; maintain case calendar; coordinate with vendors regarding graphics, technical support, reprographics, etc.; prepare courtroom, attend trial, and keep time; document management support during trial; trial transcript review; update exhibits lists, demonstratives, etc.; under the supervision and direction of firm attorneys, coordinate with other firms, court clerks, and court reporters.

·       Act as paralegal liaison with various internal departments and outside vendors/agencies - Coordinate with and oversee the progress of projects through litigation support departments and outside vendors; order transcripts from reporting services; fulfill requests from firm attorneys, outside counsel, and others as requested.

Job Specifications:

·       9\:30 a.m. to 5\:30 p.m. – 35 hour work week.  This is an on-site position Monday through Thursday with remote Fridays optional pending workload.

·       Flexibility in availability required. Overtime will be necessary, including weekends and holidays, potentially on short notice.

Required Skills:

·       Bachelor’s Degree required; paralegal certificate preferred.

·       At least 3-4 years of litigation experience, including prior trial experience in that role.

·       Experience with the Court of Chancery practice and procedures required; experience in other courts’ practices and procedures preferred.

·       Proficient in e-filing in Delaware state courts required; experience in other courts’ e-filing practices and procedures preferred.

·       Proficient in MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and related software.

·       Familiar with DUC and Bluebook.

·       Excellent organizational, computer and documentation skills and an ability to prioritize effectively.

·       Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

·       Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication are essential in this collaborative work environment.

·       Must be:

o   Willing to monitor emails during non-standard business hours;

o   Able to work in a fast paced environment independently;

o   Self-motivated and willing to accept responsibilities outside of initial job description;

o   Able to effectively interact with all levels of firm personnel, in all offices, as well as with outside counsel, clients, and vendors; and

o   Comfortable in a growing, evolving litigation practice in a small office environment.

Salary:

$80,000 - $90,000 (non-exempt). Paul, Weiss offers competitive compensation and benefits packages.  The firm considers a number of factors when determining compensation, including, but not limited to, education, years of experience, levels of experience, competency levels and other relevant skills and qualifications.
