Head of Litigation and Disputes

Job Description:

The Head of Litigation and Disputes will lead the organization’s global litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution strategies. This role is responsible for overseeing all legal disputes, managing outside counsel, and advising senior leadership on litigation risks and strategies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in complex commercial litigation, regulatory investigations, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company’s litigation and dispute resolution strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Manage all litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation disputes, including commercial, employment, intellectual property, regulatory, and compliance matters.
• Lead internal investigations and provide strategic guidance on risk mitigation.
• Oversee relationships with external counsel, including selection, budgeting, and performance management.
• Partner with business units to proactively identify potential disputes and recommend strategies to mitigate legal exposure.
• Advise senior management and key stakeholders on litigation risks and settlement strategies.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Drive efficient case management, including legal holds, discovery, depositions, motions, and trial strategy.
• Develop policies, procedures, and training programs to minimize litigation risks and enhance compliance practices.
• Monitor emerging legal trends and legislative developments that may impact the organization’s operations.

Qualifications & Experience

• JD or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
• Licensed to practice law in at least one relevant jurisdiction.
• 12+ years of experience in litigation, disputes, and regulatory matters, with significant experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
• Proven experience managing high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution on a global scale.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience handling settlements and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
• Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a multinational corporation or highly regulated construction industry.
• Background in employment law, antitrust, or intellectual property disputes.
• Familiarity with cross-border litigation and international arbitration.

Salary range applicable to California: $240,000-$271,000
