Temple Health is seeking an experienced intellectual property transactions attorney to serve in the role of Associate General Counsel – Intellectual Property Transactions within Temple Health’s Legal Department. This role will report to the General Counsel of Fox Chase Cancer Center and will be responsible for advising on and negotiating a wide range of complex agreements across all of Temple Health to support the organization’s innovation, technology transfer, and growth initiatives.

The successful candidate will have 7+ years of experience counseling clients on IP-related transactions in the life sciences and/or pharmaceutical industries. Experience drafting and negotiating sponsored research agreements, material transfer agreements, data licensing agreements, and other IP-related contracts is strongly preferred.

This is an excellent opportunity for a thoughtful and business-minded attorney to support the research and innovation mission of a leading academic medical center committed to addressing health inequities in North, Northwest, and Northeast Philadelphia and Eastern Montgomery County.

**This position requires regular on site time in various Philadelphia locations**

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research & Commercial Agreements\: Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to sponsored research, clinical trials, MTAs, data use and sharing, collaboration, and licensing.
  • Strategic IP Counseling\: Advise stakeholders on the commercialization and licensing of Temple Health’s intellectual property.
  • Regulatory Expertise\: Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA, GDPR, and data privacy rules related to research agreements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration\: Work closely with internal stakeholders including Business Development, Research Administration, Compliance, IT and colleagues in the Legal Department.
  • Team Management\: Lead a team of contract managers supporting research contracting.

In addition to excellent written and oral communication skills, the preferred candidate will demonstrate first-rate analytical ability, strong initiative, intellectual curiosity and both interpersonal skills and client-service skills consistent with the highest professional standards.

 

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Strong Transactional Skills\: Adept at drafting and negotiating complex agreements that balance legal risk with academic and business priorities.
  • Life Sciences/Pharma Experience\: Understanding of the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, particularly in relation to academic medical research and the field of oncology.
  • IP Expertise\: Experience with patent, copyright, and trade secret law as they relate to research and commercialization.
  • Excellent Communicator\: Skilled at distilling complex legal and scientific concepts for diverse stakeholders.
  • Collaborative & Practical\: Willingness to work across departments to find workable, compliant solutions that advance research and innovation.
