Job Description

This position serves under the Nationwide Central Intake Facility as the Debt Collection Management authority in the identification, collection, analysis, measurement, documentation, reporting, and presentation of reliable debt collection and financial data for the purpose of improving the delivery of data-driven policy and resource recommendations and decisions.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities for a Data Scientist, GS-1560-13/14 generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Use programming skills, statistics, data visualization and/or critical thinking skills to identify gaps in data and determine methods for closing such gaps.
  • Perform the collection of relevant information from many varied sources and apply a broad range of data analyses techniques.
  • Participate in the development of requirements, design and perform user acceptance testing to determine system readiness.
  • Provide input to management regarding the enhancement of current processes and procedures and executing best practices.
  • Serve as a recognized authority in transforming vast, complex, and unstructured data into actionable insights to solve complex problems and predict future outcomes.
  • Serve as an authority in the design, development, test, and readiness of systems.

Salary
  • $121,785 - $187,093/year

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Data Scientist, at GS-1560-13/14, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

A.
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Providing research and analyzing technical, financial or program issues; reviewing information and applying standard quantitative or qualitative analytical techniques.; Developing recommendations and providing guidance to resolve problems of work operations; Planning and conducting meetings, briefings and other activities in support of particular programs; and Performing legal research, conducting research of federal laws and regulations as it relates to debt collection

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Providing wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for assessment and improvement of program; Planning, organizing, and directing team study work; developing and implementing recommendations and guidance to resolve problems of work operations; Planning and conducting meetings, briefings and other activities in support of particular programs; and Performing legal research, conducting research of federal laws and regulations as it relates to debt collection.
